Community Advancement Program
The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force and the Community Advancement Program.
The KRPF Community Advancement Program was started in 1990 by several now retired Rothesay Regional Police members. The project was and is still called “C.A.P. Inc” short for Community Advancement program Inc. The project was incorporated as a non –profit organization to better the quality of life of the underprivileged and vulnerable persons in our jurisdiction. The intention was to act as a service club raising funds and distributing them to worthy causes in the area. The C.A. P. Inc program has supported many activities over the past 30 years such as:
- Tanya Shand Milk and Cookie run against domestic violence/Love shouldn’t hurt campaign
- The Youth Advisory Committee and the Seniors Police Academy
- PARTNER (KRPF Police mascot)
- Police Hot Pursuit BBQ and the “BBQ at the Q” challenge
- ATV and off-road safety seminars and youth distracted driving seminars(simulator)
- Purchased sports equipment for youth, clothing, work boots etc
- Summer student program
- Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics
- “ROSA” Therapy Dog Program
- Vulnerable family Christmas parties
- Bicycle Rodeos
- Boys and Girls Club
- Hestia House
- KRPF trading cards/Community relations vehicle/KRPF coloring & safety book
- Put a lid on It (Bike helmet safety program)/Child identification and drug awareness kits
- KRPF Chaplaincy Program
- High School safe graduations
- Oasis Youth centre and the Hive seniors resource center
- Children’s Wish Foundation
- NB Muslim Association
Today the CAP program still maintains its original mission, and is a valuable tool for officers to use in advancing community programs and events. Whether it is a grocery gift card, a bicycle helmet, a trading card or a coloring book, when issued personally from an officer, builds trust and positive interactions. The CAP program provides the resources and means to allow officers to be creative in finding community solutions.
