Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigation Division plays an integral role in the investigative process and also provides front line police officers with the resources of a team of trained and experienced fulltime Investigators, who exist as a support unit to patrol operations.

The CID members primary role and core focus is on serious and complex criminal investigations, as well as the development of individual and Unit investigative competencies.

Working with other members of the organization, CID will lead an investigative team utilizing the principles and practices of Major Case management. The CID investigative team is managed by a command triangle, consisting of a Team Commander, Primary Investigator and a File Coordinator.

The CID members assist and /or guide members of other units in source handling, drafting of judicial authorizations, interview and interrogation and investigation strategy and planning.

The members of the Criminal investigation Division receive specialized training courses in all aspects of police investigations.

CID Investigators are expected to be well versed in the Criminal Code, Case Law, and motivated to develop skills in long and complex investigations, interviewing, planning and organization, verbal and written communication skills.

The CID will also work to combat and prevent crime through public awareness and education on subjects such as Financial Abuse against Senior Citizens, Internet Crimes, Frauds and safety strategies to prevent the victimization of the residents of Rothesay and Quispamsis.
